Vimeo
I had uploaded some videos to Vimeo a while back, but they seem to have disappeared, who knows why. Anyway, I’ve just been playing around with it again today and I can’t believe how much better it is than Youtube. I had tried to upload a version of that trailer I mentioned to Youtube and it looked terrible. I do a lot to optimize the settings for compression, but Youtube squashes both the video and audio terribly no matter what you do beforehand.
I just uploaded this cover of a Coldplay song to Vimeo to see what would come out and I’m very pleased with the results. It looks and sounds just like it did after I compressed it on my end. Of course, now I need to learn a whole new workflow for compressing these videos since I don’t have to plan for them to be yuckified on the Youtube end. (Though sadly, I’ve spent enough time on Youtube that it wouldn’t make sense for me to transfer my music end over to Vimeo. Thus, I’ll probably use Vimeo for graphic and film work, and stick with Youtube for music.)
