Como Lake

Today was our first full day in Bellagio. We spent most of it by the pool, looking at the sun, and reading “airport” novels. The lake is exceptionally freezing but it’s easy to forget that when it’s as beautiful as it is. The mountains surrounding it make it feel like we are constantly in some sort of movie (either an old Bond, or Planet Earth). The Bond thing is reenforced by the constant appearance of amazing cars outside the hotel. Yesterday there was the Aston Martin from Casino Royale parked out front, today there is a Porsche convention. There you have it.

We also explored the town and got a bite to eat. Much of our exploration was a search for a tie for me for dinner tonight. I had brought this (awesome) white tie, but Mama says that it’s no good, so we had to find an appropriate alternative. All ties in Italy look the same, so this took some doing. Tie in hand, we are back at the hotel and getting ready for dinner which is about 90 minutes away. We are all nervous because we have no idea how tipping works in this country and we don’t know how to handle our cab ride or subsequent dinner. Everyone we ask says “Don’t tip, but you know, umm, yeah I guess like 10%? Or you know, few Euro. But usually don’t. But you can, you know, a little.”
