Time Goes By Slowly (according to Madonna)

It appears this is my first post in quite some time. That’s mostly because school here in NZ is over and i try to avoid the library as much as possible. Not that I’m complaining, it’s awesome having no school, especially since it’s spring here and there is lots o time to surf. But then again…i leave in a week.

Madonna has a new song out called “Time goes by so slowly,” I don’t think it’s possibly for me to disagree more. The only time that’s ever true is on airplanes (when you have the middle seat) or when you are waiting at the DMV. Obviously there are other times when time goes by slowly, but i think we can all agree in a general sense that time moves quite briskly. So Madonna, you are wrong. (as usual) Anyway the most recent example of time moving at a speedy pace is the fact that my study abroad experience is one week from being over. I still remember doing battle with the study abroad office like it was yesterday, and don’t even get me started on getting my New Zealand Visa. But yeah, one week till I’m home.

That’s another crazy thing, I’ve never been away from home for this long so it’s going to be very bizarre to have reverse culture shock in a town I’ve spent 20 years of my life in. I’d say this 4 months was the perfect amount of time to do study abroad though, I am ready to go home not a moment to soon or late. I could never do the 4 years that some people I know are doing. Way too long that would be. It’s funny, only having a week left you would think most of us Americans would be rushing around trying to do everything we didn’t get a chance to do and fill up the days till they overflow. But instead i really feel a sense of calm and accomplishment in that I think i did everything and got everything i wanted out of this experience. So this last week instead of trying to do everything we missed, most of us are doing absolutely nothing and thinking about how amazing everything we did was. Indirectly we are also trying to soak up as much sun as possible before we go back to that “other” hemisphere” where the seasons are different for no particular reason. (besides all the scientific ones..) But yeah, I hope i always feel this way after the end of something big.

and now back to studying for exams…because apparently Kiwis need 1 MONTH to have exams.
