The Wonderful Relationship Between Books and Magazines

So I’ve had a bunch of time recently to read for fun. Anybody in college knows that that is usually impossible. (i love it when you get to say ‘that that’, cause usually when you say the same word twice in a row it doesn’t make sense, but there it does haha) Well anyway, I’ve been reading Bill Bryson cause he makes me laugh, and also Chuck Klosterman because he makes me laugh and everybody loves deep conversations about shallow things right? I don’t think I’ll ever lose my love of magazines though, it’s so quick and easy. No strings attached you know. I decided earlier today that reading magazines as opposed to books is sort of like doing the ‘random hook-up’ thing as opposed to being in a relationship. When you read a book, you are commited you know, you wouldn’t read another book at the same time. Sometimes the book you are reading makes you think of another book etc. Then with magazines, you can read a few at a time no worries. They don’t last as long as books and usually aren’t as interesting/meaningful. They also put more energy into catching your eye quickly with fancy visuals etc. So i assume you understand my metaphor, it’s not that complicated. but it gets fun if you start to really think about it. Like for me, I used to LOVE to read magazines. (for real, not in metaphor land) And at the same time i was really into the relationship thing. But now, there has been a shift, and I read mostly books and have moved to the random hook up side of the spectrum (at least in NZ). So who knows, I’m sure one day I’ll just read books, for now magazines.
