Put some CL on that Ass

Act I is over.

I’ve decided that this summer is unfolding much like a play. Not that I have any idea how a play unfolds.. Anyway. It’s been about 2 weeks since I got here and I think I have fully settled in. Things don’t seem weird anymore, everything is starting to look familiar. Granted, I have been to about 20% of the city, but I feel very comfortable with that 20%. I’ve got the neighborhoods, the subway, the taxis, the clubs, the bars, the shops, and most of that type of stuff down I think. My class is going really well too, always nice to start out with an A..

I had dinner by myself today, something most people don’t do enough in college. I think it’s really important every once in a while to eat out alone and just think. I say Act I is over because tonight, I really felt almost as if I was about to go home. This part of my trip is finished, the orientation period complete. I’m not sure what the next Act has in store, or how many Acts there are going to be, but I’m very excited to see what’s what.

Of course, no first act is complete without a big finish. Mine was capped off by a majestic, ridiculous, lucky, crazy amazing, show at the legendary Apollo Theater. I got to see the following artists all perform 2 songs with the Wynton Marsalis Septet:

John Legend (Don’t Fall in Love, Don’t Let me be Misunderstood)
Tracy Chapman (Give me one Reason, Get Up Stand Up)
Natalie Merchant (wasn’t sure of the titles..)
Joe Cocker (I Feel Alright, Unchain My Heart, I Put a Spell on You)
JOHN MAYER (Find Another You, Freddie Freeloader)

all hosted by Bernie Mac. If that doesn’t look like an incredible evening I don’t know what would.

Anyway, it was amazing beyond belief. See you in act 2
