Reality TV Sucks
I hate finishing good books. I think my brain zones out on purpose when reading a book I like, so I am forced to go back and reread a few pages. (and the process takes longer) Of course, this happens when I’m reading a book I don’t like too, but I just skip pages instead of zoning out. Currently, the book I’m afraid of finishing is “Chuck Klosterman IV: A Decade of Curious People and Dangerous Ideas.” I would read it if I were you, obviously, since I’m reading it.
I’m sick of the negative response to facebook’s new “newsfeed”. First of all, I’m sick of the almost uniform response everyone on facebook has to almost anything. New notes feature? Oh cool, how about EVERYone write a note about how much you don’t like notes? Wouldn’t that be original? new status feature? How about EVERYone write a “Alex is weirder out by this feature” update. (Granted, part of this frustration stems from the fact that I get frustrated when what i think is my own clever idea also happens to be shared by thousands.)
The thing that gets me though about the response to newsfeed, is that everyone pretty much reacted in the first day or two of its inception. This indicates to me that everyone that joined (or created) a group that was against facebook that day, most likely visits facebook more than 7 times a week (once a day at least…). And the only reason why you would use facebook more than 7 times a week would be for looking at other people’s profiles, pictures etc… aka what is referred to as facebook stalking. (Though I have issues with that word too. “Stalking” should only be used if the accused is hiding in trees) Therefore, the only people complaining about facebook’s new newsfeed, were the ones that were using it the most anyway. (and therefore noticed it immediately) Really, activities that they do anyway were just made easier, so there really shouldn’t be any negative response. However, they were also just made public via the newsfeed, which obviously made these facebook users uncomfortable. This seems hypocritical to me. You say you don’t like the newsfeed because it compromises your privacy, when you have simultaneously visited facebook 7 times in the past 3 days to check out other people’s profiles. I don’t know, it seems a little fishy to me. I personally don’t like it because of the way it looks, I think the old home page was more aesthetically pleasing, maybe I should start a group?
I feel like I should write something here so the last thing you read isn’t my random facebook rant…
