Music Month (capital letters)

This is a good month. There are many reasons why January rocks, but this particular time around is mainly because I don’t have any school. That’s right, as crazy as it sounds I don’t have to be back in school until Jan.29th. (graphic designers apparently aren’t big on January) This would be the perfect opportunity to play Call of Duty non-stop, go out every night, and spiral myself out of control. I have decided against this plan of uncontrolled craziness. Instead I plan to make something out of this month. I have deemed it “Music Month” and will have scheduled every day of the month out, hour by hour. Even this blog post is falling into its own daily time allotment category. (named “shower/eat/blog” 11am-12pm) The main purpose of this month is going to be to write music. This is a priority for a number of reasons, but mainly because I am so creatively exhausted during the graphic design semester that I don’t have any juice left to devote to creating music. I can record all I want, I just can’t write anything new. I only have so many creative reserves I guess. So this month, with the main creative drain removed, I am going to refocus my energy towards one goal. I will be trying to write for about 4-6 hours each day, and hope to come out the other side with some songs to record during the semester. Ideally, I will have 5-7 songs that I can take to LA to record, but we’ll see.

I have also started a fairly intense exercise regimen that will be taking place in the mornings before “work”. During the evening, I will be learning to cook to have a gear-change each day so I don’t go crazy. ( Here is my cookbook ) The weekends will be devoted to the redesign and re imaging of my website and myspace page. Despite having the whole month basically free, I only have approx 15 days devoted to music and 4 free weekend days. So it’s not the MONTH that I was hoping for, but it should be a good experiment.

I am going to be posting daily progress reports here for my own records, but also to help keep myself on track. I will be less likely to slack off if I know that everyone will read about my lack of progress. I feel really lucky to have the freedom to devote my time to a goal so important to me. The month should be a really intense and exciting time. Hopefully.
