Music Month - Day 1

As I promised, here is my progress report from day 1 of Music Month. (I think I’ll be doing this every night around this time)

Today was actually really successful. I think I was running on a little excess energy because of how excited I was to start the process, and I suspect future days might not run quite as smoothly. There were a few hitches as well, including an enormous and unexpected amount of soccer moms at the gym, mind numbing noise from tree cutters, and multiple cooking related mishaps. The day went something like this:

9am - wake
10-10:30 - Run, despite the rain and overall yuck that surrounded San Francisco this morning.
10:30-11:30 - Gym. Me and one million other people.
11:30-1pm - errands plus lunch. also brainstorming how to approach the “cooking”.

1-4pm - Songwriting. The “point” of the day. I started on the piano today and ended up writing what I think is a pretty great verse progression and melody. The chorus was there as well, but I changed it to be the bridge and am now searching for the perfect chorus. That will be tomorrow. No lyric ideas for this one yet, but I’m thinking it will strike me once I have all the parts lined up. Instrumentation is piano, vocals, drums, and probably some synth. The verse will probably be heavily reliant on a harmony part which I’m thinking might sound best with a female vocalist. Will depend on the final incarnation. This song should be completed tomorrow, musically, then the lyrics will come probably sometime next week. For now it’s called “The F# one that sounds similar to a Pricilla Ahn song”

4-6pm - Cooking! After getting excellent instructions from my Mom, I set about to make some baked potatoes, hamburgers, and corn on the cob. All very basic I know, but I have to start somewhere. I have to say, it was quite amazing. I made way too much, and am now well beyond satiated, but it was still a pleasent experience.

6-7pm - Eat, and plan trip to Tokyo. I bought some guidebooks and a few maps and have begun planning my 2 week venture into what I think is the coolest city in the world. (having never been there…have to see if I’m right)

8pm— —- - -> My “work day” is over.

Tomorrow should be about the same, but with a longer writing period. If I make significant progress, I might be able to throw up a rough cut of the song.
